Sadly, most beginner quilting books and classes all teach you how to make this type of quilt or something similar. Never one to be intimidated by a craft I have never tried, I decided to create my own style of quilting. Don't laugh! Someone has to do it!
In an attempt to try my hand at quilting, practice using my super awesome Bernina Stitch Regulator, and rid myself of a few scraps, I crafted this handy sewing machine cover. Seasoned quilters, hide your eyes!
It now straddles my Bernina 640 and has become a fixture in my sewing studio. It is growing on me and I'm really starting to like it.
Basically, it's scrap pieces squared into rectangles and squares and attached with a 1/4" seam. I just fit those little suckers in wherever they would go. When it looked big enough, I just trimmed it up to fit over my machine.
The quilt fill is a product called Warm and Natural that can be purchased at hobby and sewing centers. The backing is a piece of white quilting fabric that I had in my stash.
I pieced and quilted the whole thing on a Saturday morning while still wearing my pj's. I did need a second cup of coffee to get it all finished!

It looks really good! Of course, I have very untrained eyes (so I don't see the "flaws" you think are apparent), but I really like the mix of fabrics and shapes.
Great job!

Love what you made & agree with your initial remarks. While the large quilt is okay it's not what I would make, either!
Since I didn't know what I was doing, I used regular thread. Ha! I later found out that there is such a thing as quilting thread. Who knew!
Take a bow!Looks good to me
