You can catch up on the entire series here.
Today, I am going to highlight another type of machine embroidery: Fill-Designs
My definition of a fill design is one that is all filled in with machine embroidery thread.
This collection of Ethnic Birds by Hatched in Africa is a good example of fill-design.
With fill work, the entire design is created by combining different threads and different stitching.
Sometimes you will see fill-designs used in drapery or upholstery fabrics like these from Calico Corners.
Adding fill-design embroidery to inexpensive curtain fabrics, like twill, can give your décor a very high-end look for a very low-budget price.
Perhaps you dream of owning a gown like this:
The cost to buy embroidered silk organza is somewhere in the $25/yard and up range.
But, this little fill-design could be embroidered all over a piece of silk organza for very little money.
Of course, there are tons of different fill designs and a million ways to use them.
These are just a few ideas to help you better understand this term.
