Recently, someone emailed my Etsy store and asked if I could make this apron style with a terry cloth skirt. She wanted a working apron, one that she could use to wipe wet hands and other cooking releated things. Since terry cloth is really thick and heavy, I didn't think it would work too well in an apron. However, I remembered that several fabric designers were offering some of their quilting weight fabrics in flannel. So, I suggested that the apron skirt be flannel, an idea that she thought would work, too.The apron you see above is the result of those conversations and then the reality of the finished product. I am really pleased with the way the flannel works so well for this application. Who knows, maybe I've invented something entirely new!

I love this idea! I'm always wiping my hands while cooking because I can't stand wet hands. I love this idea.
I looooove that apron, it's beautiful! And I delight in knowing that it is soft flannel.
As far as terry is concerned, I remember that in the late '60's or early '70's, my mother had 1 or 2 terry cloth half aprons. They were what we would call pretty ugly now. The one I remember in detail had a brown cotton waistband and ties, the skirt of the apron was white terry with brown, gold and orange stripes in a regular repeat. The edges were finished in a brown cotton binding. I remember my mother sighing and saying that it was pretty ugly, but that she used it on her "deep clean the kitchen days", which involved lots of hot water and suds and emptying the fridge and scrubbing out all the drawers, etc. I remember her wearing it to clean the oven and the stove top, drip pans and all.
I can't imagine subjecting your pretty apron to such punishment!
So that's my 2 cents worth, if it's worth even that!

It's beautiful, too! I want one :)
Awesome idea! I think that I would actually wear an apron like that!
This could not possibly be any cuter! Just found your blog and I must say, you are indeed one domestic goddess!
