Behind the Seams

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a mature woman in possession of a Bernina must be able to quilt!

For me,  I'm not interested in making a prairie muffin quilt to slap across my bed.  All those perfectly-pieced quilt squares scare me to death.

I confess, I get little chills when I think about taking some of my uber-cute fabric scraps and turning them into useful items.   So, last week I took this really fun class with Shelly to learn how to make quilted fabric-scrap-pot holders. Shelly read me like a book because she emphasized (more than once, thank goodness) that the piecing does NOT have to be perfect.  Instead, wonky-pieced blocks could be squared up later!  Now we're talkin'.

Since this was my first machine-quilting class, I really didn't know what to expect.  I had a long list of supplies that included things like a walking foot (which I had to buy), rotary cutter, cutting mat, scissors, pins, sewing machine, thread, fabric scraps...it was quite a list.

Made me wish for a sewing RV.  Maybe I'll invent that...

So I show up with all of my supplies in Ziploks and shopping bags.  My scraps were squashed into two large Ziploks!

The supply list did not mention HOW I was supposed to get my supplies into the classroom - I just improvised.  And I was a mess with scraps and supplies everywhere.

Here is what the others were carrying their supplies in:

Obviously, they had done this before.  Everything had a place.  Beautiful matching pieces of ironed fabric, folded up so nice and pretty.  All of the supplies were in perfectly designed storage compartments. Oy vey!

Guess what just arrived at my house?
