You know how things can just get way out of hand...try this on for size...

About 20+ years ago Mr. Seasoned Homemaker and I bought this TV cabinet.  It was and investment piece when I still believed that quality furniture was worth the investment.  It was going to be a substantial piece of furniture that we would keep forever and hand down to our children, etc.  Blah, blah, blah!

It is exquisitely made, and has a finish that defies dust.  Seriously, I haven't dusted this piece of furniture in like two years and it still doesn't have any dust on it.  However, the TV that fits in the cabinet is now an antique (which still works) that doesn't accept digital signals.  What's a girl to do...

So, I have been having this ongoing fight with my cable company...they are charging me $160 ($20 which are taxes) for (worthless, in my opinion) TV, phone service, and internet (which I actually need).  Last time I got my bill, I asked, "Hey guys, this costs way to much..."   To which they replied, "Tough!"

When you have an antique TV, the cable company really is the only game in town.  So, to prove I'm nobody's slave, I got a new TV which doesn't fit in the I'm-keeping-this-forever-then-handing-it-down TV cabinet.  So, we foisted upon handed down the cabinet and TV to my daughter's family and now have a spiffy new TV sitting on a new-to-me buffet that we scored at the used furniture store (future pictures coming once I learn how to use my new camera).

Of course, the TV and new cabinet are only the beginning.  We had to purchase a Blue-Ray player (whatever the heck that is???) and I've been informed by Mr. Seasoned Homemaker that we need a sub-woofer (Huh, what???), and new speakers ( I DO know what these are!).

Really, all I wanted to do was stick it to the cable company and tell them where they could put their cable cancel my cable TV and phone service.  So far, I've had to remove a large and heavy piece of furniture, buy something to replace it and ditch an old TV that still worked.  Yep, I really know how to even the score with the cable company!

I'm now getting to the really cool part.  Since we want to cancel our ridiculously price cable TV, we've signed up for a free month of Amazon Prime which somehow comes through our Blue-Ray player (crazy, but true?).  And guess what I found....every episode of Julia Child's French Cooking on PBS.

After watching a few episodes, I've become her biggest fan!  I'm mesmerized and charmed by her at the same time.  All I can think of is French Onion Soup and Beef Bourguinon.   She has charmed my heart and made me want to Master the Art of French Cooking, all while slathering butter on just about everything.  She did things on her show that no Food Channel director would ever allow on TV today.  She became a cooking icon and (clearly) didn't have a stylist, an agent, or (most likely) a personal assistant.  What she did have was pure passion for something she loved. 

And what does this have to do with anything?  Well, friends, that's how I feel about sewing.  That's what I want to impart through this blog.  The pure and simple love of sewing.  I want to share tools and techniques that will cause you to have a Julia Child passion for sewing. 

Hopefully, you will then share your passion with someone and she'll do the same, and sew on and sew forth...
