The moment I became an apron-maker I knew that I would have to tell my apron-buyers the what and the why behind my aprons. My apron-making passion is really about connecting women, generation to generation. Aprons and apron-wearing activities are the perfect way to do this. Since I started keeping this blog, I have tried to convey my thoughts and sentiments as they relate to particular apron creations. If you occasionally follow this blog you will notice that I have fallen way behind in my reporting...for an explanation, see paragraph 3....
Much has been happening behind the scenes here in Austin, TX. Last January I began with a plan to make (and hopefully sell) four aprons per week. I have actually met and slightly exceeded this goal! The last few weeks I have been frantically trying to keep up with the demand and I am surprised my Bernina didn't reach up and slap me for working it so hard! If you visit my Etsy store regularly, none of this would be a surprise.
Now for the downer...since May I have attended three funerals (the last on December 17th!) and the sadness that accompanies the loss of people you care for has wreaked havoc with my heart. Daily I have sat at my sewing machine with an overwheming sadness that I know must've been sewn into my aprons. I look back at the aprons and wonder if anyone can actually tell that the usual joyfulness I pour into my apron creations is weak or altogether lacking.
However, King David said it best in Ps. 30:5, "Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning." It is now near the end of my very long and sad year and I am looking forward to a new day. Sew (pun intended) with the long night of this year coming to a close I am ready to pour my heart and soul into another year of aprons. I am appropriately armed with a brand new serger that is sure to spark new forms of creativity with endless yards of fabric and thread!

I can feel your sadness from here as I read your post. I am so sorry for your losses. I have attended 2 funerals this year, the most recent on 12/19. I get it. I laud your gumption to keep on keepin' on and look forward. God always has something comin' round the bend. You were right to seek solace in the Bible, the source of all wisdom and truth.

My mother in law got me one of your Aprons for Christmas (We're from Fenton :)) and I absolutely LOVE it! I asked her for it because I follow your blog and I love Aprons and everyone who sees it says how amazing it is!
